Ian Rubin, MA is a wellness coach, coach educator, mentor, creator of Food Story Coaching®, and adjunct faculty at the National University of Natural Medicine. As a coach his specialty and focus is Food Story Coaching®, his proprietary approach developed over the last 17 years in one-on-one and group work with clients. This approach is driven by his passionate interest in food culture and psycho/spiritual/emotional forces, that is, the intersection of personal, social and anthropological forces that influence our daily food choices.
Food Story Coaching® has two primary focal points:
Personal Food Story, generated by influences such as family of origin, race/ethnicity/culture, life experience, and individuality.
Cultural Food Story, those forces such as historical precedence, society, capitalism, politics, and media that exert an intensely powerful influence over our thoughts, feelings, and choices regarding food and wellness. Using the metaphor of the fictitious world generated by machines to keep human beings under control in the movie “The Matrix,” Ian strives to expose the very real “Matrix of Food Culture” that often undermines our ability to freely choose when, how, what, where, and why we eat.
Combined, the powerful insights of Personal and Cultural Food Story have helped to empower thousands of Ian’s clients and improved the coaching skills of hundreds of practitioners to develop a Food Story that leads to long-term health and happiness.
Before taking Ian Rubin’s Food Story Coach training, I was feeling burnt out with coaching. After learning, practicing, and implementing the skills I learned from the training, I felt more invigorated and my coaching skills have vastly improved. Coaching has become easier, more enjoyable, and has led to more success with my clients. I transitioned from “information transfer” coaching to “client-centered” coaching and this shift has been a game-changer for my clients and myself.
I have received a lot of positive feedback from my clients about how they feel motivated and excited about their health. And I feel more excited, too!
Ian has a unique coaching style that gets to the root of the issue in a caring and compassionate way. He listens carefully before offering valuable insights that can be used in practical ways. As a talented coach, he takes a very individualized and client-centered approach, guiding clients towards the inner core of truth that ultimately promotes freedom from oppressive patterns, thoughts, and behaviors. Ian offers a safe coaching platform to embrace authenticity and vulnerability in a society that often promotes and projects oppressive stereotypes around food, fitness, and body image.
